Posts: 2 09/05/2007 9:34 PM	HELP !!! I have an egg-laiden(for 2 to 4 months now, maybe longer) female goldfish. She shows no signs of laying her eggs, nor do any of my other goldfish or koi in the same pond pay any attention to her. A few months ago I lost about 7 goldfish, I am not sure if a cat or a bird got them, but I found no remains. Could it be that one of those where her mate and that is the problem? If so and she does not lay her eggs, what will happen to her? Has anyone else had this problem or know of anyone who has? Please answer. Anxiously waiting, Calypso48 PS Thank you in advance

In the normal scheme of things, outdoor goldfish develope thier eggs as spring approaches. They usually start laying when the water approaches 70 degrees farenheit. People who spawn them indoors usually try to reproduce these outdoor conditions by lowering the temps and putting the females on a fast for a while, then putting them on a high protien diet and raising the temps a few degrees a day, introducing the males when the water is back up to the high 60s. The egg bearing females give off a scent that attracts the attention of the males [and sometimes the other females, too], and they drive her relentlessly until the eggs are scattered. So I guess I'm a little skeptical that your fish is actually carrying: maybe she's just fat...

Posts: 2 09/20/2007 9:01 PM	Thank you for your replies. I am not upset and doubt if my fish is. We're tougher scaled than that. We'll take it as a compliment. I am just concerned about her. She has lost some scales also, otherwise she seems pretty healthy. The fish are in an outdoor pond. We are located in Indiana. Any other ideas? Otherwise, guess I'll continue to wait and watch. Again, thanks for your input.
